ABSTRACT

r-PET fibers are produced from recycled PET bottle wastes. In this study, r-PET fiber’s effects on the quality properties of denim yarns produced from sustainable fibers were investigated with different r-PET blending ratio such as 15, 30, 40, 50%. The denim yarns were produced in open-end spinning system by using cotton, Tencel®, r-PET and recycled cotton fibers which obtained from post-industrial yarn wastes. Tensile strength, elongation at break, thin places, thick places, neps, unevenness and hairiness results of the yarns with five different blending ratios of ternary fiber mixtures from five different fibers were measured. Relationships between results of the measurements and five different fibers were statistically evaluated using correlation analysis.

ABSTRACT

Especially in recent years, filament yarns have gained various functional properties such as UV-resistance, flame retardant (FR), anti-bacterial properties, etc. One of the most preferred methods for production these types of products is adding micro and nano scale additives to polymer raw material in the chip form during production. As a result, end products with unique properties are produced by using this method for different areas of use. However, in addition to these unique properties, structural and mechanical properties (tenacity, breaking elongation, unevenness etc.) are important. Also, these important features should be at specific values for the production of high quality filament yarn. Purpose of this study is to analyse basic structural and mechanical properties of polypropylene (PP), flame retardant yarns that are produced using additives.

Key Words: Polypropylene filament yarn, mechanical properties, flame retardant (FR), SEM and EDX analysis.

ABSTRACT

Sizing process is the important process for the textile mills and affects the efficiency of the loom machine. In this study, the optimization of the multiple performance characteristics based on grey relations analysis method which is a new approach for optimization of the sizing process has been researched using Taguchi L18 (mixed 3-6 Level) experimental plan. The selected process parameters, Warp Yarn Count, Sizing Solution and The Dispatch Speed of The Warp Yarn passing from sizing machine are optimized. In the experimental design of the Taguchi L18 (mixed 3-6 Level), Warp Yarn Count factor was chosen as 3 levels (Ne 50/1, Ne 60/1 ve Ne 70/1), Sizing Solution factor was chosen as 3 levels (14 Ns/m2, 20 Ns/m2, 24 Ns/m2) and The Dispatch Speed of The Warp Yarn passing from sizing machine factor was chosen as 6 levels (40 m/dk, 50 m/dk, 60 m/dk, 70 m/dk, 80 m/dk, 90 m/dk). Quality characteristics were determined as Warp Yarn Strength, The Efficiency of The Loom Machine. A grey relational grade obtained from the grey relational analysis is used to solve the sizing process with the multiple performance characteristics. And then, optimum levels for the sizing process parameters were determined using grey relation grade.

Key Words: Sizing, Orthogonal array, Grey relational analysis, Optimization
